Michael Bondi had an emergency repair he needed done before he left on vacation.
He works in San Francisco at the USA Today office as a story researcher and was leaving on Wednesday July 15th for vacation.
He sent his 5th Gen video iPod in using UPS to get the LCD replaced so he could actually see the screen on Thursday July 10th "overnight" expecting it there the next day... Friday.
In fact he forgot to check the "Overnight" box on the airbill and it didn't arrive until Monday at 11:30 yet he still needed it by Wednesday AM.
I got the repair done by 12:30 and called him. He had his father come by (who just happens to live in Santa Rosa) and get it. Dad took with it in his bright yellow Miata and had it shipped overnight down to Michael so it arrived on Tuesday am the day before he was leaving.
The trapeze artists *almost* missed catching each other in this arial acrobatic but everything ultimately came off perfectly.
The LCD was $33 and labor was $40.
Fixed - Total cost $73.

Salley Park from Cypress, California
emailed me one morning. it read,
my ipod was in the washer!
"Well, I saw your website and I thought it would be REALLY helpful if you fixed my iPod. My black second generation nano was in the wash today, and I tried charging it, but the screen got fogged up, and from reading your website, I think that's a bad thing? Will all my old songs be there with the last time I listened to it, and also how much times I listened to them? Tomorrow or in a few days, I'm going to send my ipod in an envelope, so try to email me back when it comes. "
Hers was a Nano 2nd Gen 8GB model in Black and it arrived a few days later. I was able to get it working perfectly again, but her LCD was in sad shape and needed to be replaced. She sent in the the $27 for the LCD and the iPod was sent back to her working.
It was $27 for the LCD and $40 labor/return shipping.
Fixed - Total cost $67.

Carolyn Estines lives basically down the street from me in Santa Rosa.
In January her son desiring sunshine went to Mexico for a vacation and.... took his iPod. A 5th Generation video iPod. It somehow landed in the Sea of Cortez for a moment or two.
When they got back to California she got a hold of me right away, but it didn't make a tiny bit of difference. Salt water.... if an iPod even looks at it, kills it.
Though just two days had passed the interior looked like barnacles were ready to settle in. Each of these, if you click on them will show a larger image and the full destructive nature of a brief salt water exposure.
She got back a $20 refund. This was the first time I had seen a salt water immersion. Since then I've seen several others. I have been able to make just 1 in 7 come back to life.
