On Sunday December 21st 2008, Jodi Juba sent me and email from Casper, Wyoming
Hi,
I just found your add online. I was wondering if you would be able to fix my i-pod?
I bought it only a year ago and it ended up breaking 4 months ago. I sent it back to Apple and they said it was water damage and they were unable to fix it.
I work on boats and I plugged it into a amp cable that must have been faulty as it killed 2 other i-pods, besides mine. I don't believe there was any direct water contact though. Although, I looked at where the charge cable goes and it looks a little green, as if water has gotten in. Does this sound fixable? If so, would love to send it out to you this week. How long does it usually take to fix?
Thanks so much,
Jodi Juba
It arrived on January 3rd 2009. By late that night I was able to get the iPod basically working.
I was not able to get the LCD to work *and* the battery wouldn't hold charge longer than 40 minutes which
I think was a consequence of over-charging from the boat connection. There is more on
battery over-charging here.
She used PayPal to make the payment for the parts. It was $100 to get her iPod back working perfectly.
Fixed - Total cost $100.

Marina Sofi is Java programmer and college student.
She may ultimately have a job at Google and is of direct Indian extraction and lives in Napersville, Illinois.
She dropped her 16GB iPod Touch in water then found me on the internet and sent me an email.
Most of our communication except one phone call has been through email.
After waiting 6 weeks she finally sent it in to me for repair. It arrived with a letter that has a european style script. Her issues with it were:
1) the battery dies within 30 minutes if unplugged and not used
2) Browsing the internet (using safari) causes the iPod to die in like 40 minutes (even if fully charged)
3) alarm doesn't well (audio)
I took it apart and found corrosion o n the logic board that may have affected things. The battery
life aspect seemed to be caused specifically by corrosion the battery control circuits. Once I cleaned
those up the battery life became basically normal.
The battery life went up to about 14 hours and I believe I solved all of her specific problems.
Fixed - Total cost $40.

Ae Kyang Kim is Korean lives here in Santa Rosa, California.
She was given an iPod Touch by her brother. Well that's not the whole story... he decided to take "his" iPod Touch completely apart "to fix it". I never understood the problem it had. It may have been water exposed and he tried to mimic what I do after reading about it.
She contacted me by email and was most concerned that he had ripped the battery leads from the logic board. In the Touch model, the battery is soldered down to the logic board and it requires a soldering pencil and knowledge of how to use one to fix it. That was the part of "fixing" where his project went "off the range" and he gave the iPod as a box of parts to her.
She emailed me and we worked out her stopping by to bring the box of parts so I could rebuild and *maybe* just maybe make the iPod work again.
I get a fair number of cases where people want me to "fix their repair work". This was bigger than usual but 2 days later I had it working again.
This is her with her working iPod. The total cost was $60 plus the $15 soldering fee.
Fixed - Total cost $75.
