Bob Murdock called me from Bedford, New Hampshire
about his 60GB 5th Generation video iPod. We discussed what had happened and he sent it in with a letter that read,
"It dropped in a used soda cup in the car. The liquid in the cup was mostly melted ice although there was some diet pepsi still in it (liquid was very lightly colored). It was in the liquid for maybe 2 minutes before I realized what had happened (I was in a dark car)."
It arrived late on a Saturday afternoon. By 1pm the next day I had it working faithfully again with all the music and video files safe on it still.
Fixed - Total cost $40.

Karen Beudrieu lives in Sebastopol, California
and is a previous client so she knew where to find me when she needed help with a broken electronic gadget. In the past she has had me fix her iPod and also replace the LCD screen in her Sony camcorder. This time she came by with her iPod and a DVD player that belonged to her sister in law.
Her iPod 5th Gen video was a straight ahead problem, the battery and drive needed to be worked on. The total cost for her iPod repair was $40
Karen's DVD player when I opened it and took it apart seemed to have spilled milk in it. Truthfully this device was bought for her sister in law's small daughter. I was able to clean up all milk problem, put it back together again and calibrate and make it work again perfectly.
This is a Peter Gabriel DVD playing on it:
Fixed - Total cost $40.

Dean Nelson found me on the internet and called me one day.
He lives in Redmond, Washington. He sent in the 5th Gen video iPod with a note reading,
"My wife dropped it in the bathtub some time right before Christmas and as soon as I got home that night, I carefully pulled it apart and just let it air-dry for a few days. I did not try to unplug anything or 'tinker' at all. I just carefully wiped away some of the more obvious water and left it open for about a week.
I then put it back together and charged it up. I kept getting different weird messages on the screen."
His arrived over two months after the bath tub incident. By the time I had it apart I noticed some fairly obvious things had gone unattended. The hard drive I wasn't able to make work at all. Once I had a replacement running then I was able to discover the scroll wheel and compass point button switches didn't work. This indicates logic board failure from corrosion and was a direct result of not attending to the front of the logic board which had been over looked in Dean efforts.
Those two parts, the drive and logic board made impractical to repair and I had to return with a $20 refund. If this iPod had arrived much sooner it would have actually had a chance.
