found me on the internet and sent me an email on January 11th 2009 which read,
"Hi Frank:
My son borrowed my new iPod Touch to play games before our Christmas Eve church service. Yes, he forgot to take it out of his pocket, and put the pants in his hamper. I washed the iPod Touch, and now it won't do anything. I did have it in a jacket, and also had the plastic piece inserted in the bottom where it plugs in. I put it in a bag of rice (which I saw suggested on websites), but the rice never even got damp. The first time I plugged it in, I got the low battery showing. It disappeared, and now it won't do anything. It's been about 2 weeks since it's been washed. Do you think this is even worth checking? I live in PA. Thanks!

I mention, over and over again the rice thing merely wastes time in getting the device repaired. Even if it operated well as a desiccant (and it doesn't... if that's your interest why not go and buy a real desiccant) it will not stanch the build up of corrosion or clean up what corrosion there is in the iPod.
I sent her the instructions for sending in an iPod Touch model and it arrived on Friday January 24th, quite a few days had elapsed. I carefully went through the device but as you can see from the shots there a sizable amount of corrosion already in place when it arrived.
I was not able to bring this Touch back to life. Both the logic board *and* the LCD screen I wasn't able to get to work.
I sent it back with a $30 refund.

David Park found me on the internet and called from Jefferson, Ohio
about his water immersed iPod. His silver Nano 2nd Gen arrived on Saturday January 25th 2009.
By the end of Sunday I had taken apart and gotten everything cleaned and had it working again.
It required no additional parts, the total cost to get his iPod back and running was $40
Fixed - Total cost $40.

Alex called me from Lexington, Kentucky
about the 'put through the washer' 6th Generation video iPod he had. On the phone we were able to discern certain problems and through conversation and listening to the iPod were able to fix the problem he was having as being a failing hard drive. The device was s-l-o-w to boot up and then would display the starry eyed sad face.
He sent it in with a check for $140 to replace the 80GB hard drive in it.
As I mentioned it did have a water problem so I went through the device for corrosion but was not
able to get the drive to work any better than it did over the phone and had to be replaced, but he has a
brand new drive basically a brand new and perfectly working iPod now.
Fixed - Total cost $140.
