Victoria Thomas called me from Arleta, California
about her Black 6th Generation Video iPod. She had dropped it in the toilet a few days earlier and wondered if I could do anything to make it work again. We discussed it and agreed that neither of us would ever know if we could make it work again unless someone like me or me took it apart to process the corrosion and see if I could put it back on it's feet.
It arrived a few days later with a check for $40. The logic board and hard drive I couldn't get working again.
These are two critical parts that along with the $40 labor rate would exceed the value of the iPod used.
The logic board would be $100 and the drive another $80. I called and explained this wasn't to be an effective
repair and would be sending the iPod back with a $20 refund.

Tony Warncke called me from Archibold, Ohio
while at his work which is a furniture maker called Sauder. His son Aiden's iPod had become water immersed and wanted to know if I could help. We are talking about a Blue Nano 4th Gen. I can typically fix 7 out of 8 Nano 4th Gens that become water immersed but 3 of the 7 require that I replace the LCD screen.
His arrived a few days later and over the course of two days I was able to get back working again. His was one of the three that required an LCD. Apple leaves the positive connection on the LCD active when the battery has a charge, which de-plates that trace on the LCD screen.
A replacement LCD was $33 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $73.

This story similar to quite a number of other ones you'll read here.
I got a call from Rebecca McKinney in Grayson, Kentucky about her daughter's 1st Gen Touch. She bought the iPod on eBay as new and when it arrived actually mentioned to her daughter that it wouldn't last a week. She was close, Caleigh actually dropped in Seven Up on the 8th day she had it.
I sent her instructions to send it to me and it arrived with the $60 a few days later. Once I had it open I could the entirety was still sticky inside. It was really bad. The approach I took was to tear it all apart and clean it with fresh water first then go through it as through it were merely a fresh water immersion.
It required a new battery but was made to work again. The battery was $19 an labor/return shipping was $60.
Fixed - Total cost $79.
