Josh Fowler called me from here in Santa Rosa, California.
He has a Black 30GB 5th Gen video iPod that had hearing in one ear only, a standard problem for me to fix.
He brought it over to fix and also asked if I had a better faceplate since has was severely scratched. I told him I'd have it finished in an hour.
An hour later, it was finished and working perfectly. The headphone jack/hold-lock switch was $28, the new faceplate was $2 and labor was $40.
In just an hour, his torment of living with left side hearing was over *and* his iPod looked new too. Total cost $70
Fixed - Total cost $70.

Georgia Alva lives in Sonoma, California.
She called about her son's 4th Gen 40GB Black and White iPod. I have one of the same models that I use to play lectures that I listen to while I garden. This iPod needed a new battery and the boys father decided he knew how to do it. The battery must have been bought on a mail order basis and arrived top them a few days. No one sells batteries in this area.
Dad installed the battery and it still didn't work. As it turns out, they were leaving on vacation the next day and needed this problem solved. I found the mail order battery was defective and replaced it again, the iPod worked perfectly once again.
The battery was $15 and labor was $40, happy days and happy vacation.
Fixed - Total cost $55.

Steve Lauer lives in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania and called me about his Black 6th Gen video iPod.
He was having a problem with it. As he described the problem it sounded like the hard drive. Remember, the drive used in an iPod was originally intended to be used in a notebook or laptop computer. He sent it in and I was able to determine, that... yes his drive was toast and there wasn't a thing I could do to make it work again faithfully. And that's the key word... faithfully. If you can't rely on a hard drive to maintain "data state" and "data integrity" it is just going to torment you as it misbehaves every time you expect it to work.
He sent in funds by PayPal to cover the replacement. The 80GB replacement drive was $100 and labor/return shipping was $40
A couple of days after I sent it back, I got this message from Steve,
"Frank,
I received my iPod Tuesday and it has been working just like new. Thank you again for your help and excellent service in repairing my iPod. Your repair saved me over $100, thanks again!
Best,
Steve Lauer, Pennsylvania"
Fixed - Total cost $140.
