Julie McClain lives here in Santa Rosa, California and works at Redwood Regional Medical Group
where my friends Rene and Leslie also work. She dropped her 6th Gen 80GB video iPod in the toilet (this happens more often than you would imagine). She called me a few days later and brought it by.
I had it for two days and finally got it working again. In her case it needed a new logic board, the elapsed time had set up enough corrosion that it claimed the life of the iPod, but everything else I was to get to work perfectly again. Including her hard drive which I had doubts about.
The logic board was $80 and labor was $40, but it was waaaay cheaper than spending $250 for a new one.
Lesson learned
Fixed - Total cost $120.

Peyton Fatheree emailed me from Napa, California
where he lives about his daughter's 6th Generation video iPod. It had just stopped working and he wasn't sure what the circumstances were. He was coming over the hill the next day and wanted my 'drop in service' where you leave the device off with $40 and I work my way through it over a 90 minute period.
He went and ran errands while I tested things ultimately I knew that everything about the iPod sound except the hard drive. He elected to go with a 30GB replacement at $60 instead of a $100 80GB drive. I actually council people to this solution. Very few people need to carry their entire iTunes Library with them and since 30GB drive will carry on it 45 times more then a single battery charge can play it is an ideal size for things.
The drive was $60 and labor was $40
Fixed - Total cost $100.

Anaupama Bhat sent here 5th Gen video iPod from Fremont, California
where she and her husband live. He actually works for Yahoo in their search marketing group. She was having a problem with how the click wheel was behaving.
I ultimately traced it down a bad load of the operating system, but I couldn't upgrade the that OS because the drive had problems. She had me replace the drive with a 30GB one and I was able to get everything else to work on it again.
The drive was $60 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $100.
