Cheryl Beckerich called me from Indianapolis, Indiana
about her son's 2nd Gen iPod Touch model. It had gone through the washing machine about two weeks earlier and she wanted to know about what I did. I think she found me because of the Angie's List article.
It arrived a few days later and worked my way through it. I was able to get it working perfectly but it required de-soldering the old battery out and soldering a new one in.
The battery was $19 and labor/return shipping was $60 but for $79 they got iPod back, working and with all of files still on it. Notice in the second photo, the WiFi connection is working and the stock prices have been updated wirelessly.
Fixed - Total cost $79.

Steve Yeatts called me from "mid-state", that's the middle of Tennessee
for people that don't live in that area. I know this because my best friend lives in Nashville now after moving from Sonoma County to LA and then to Nashville. Steve's daughter Elayna dropped her iPod Touch 2nd Gen in water. It arrived a few days later and I went through it and was able to get it working, then sent him this message:
"Steve,
The iPod got here yesterday and I just finished working on it.
I have everything working and all the files are safe.
The on/off button at the top which also controls the side volume was...
flaky and wouldn't firmly turn on/off
I replaced it. That part is $20
I'll send a PayPal request for the $20, cover it and the iPod will on
the way to you tomorrow"
He hit me back with this message,
"Frank,
You are THAT dude - awesome! My daughter will be thrilled. I also have an i-pod Nano that is mine (my wife bought it for me brand new). One day I was out running and it slipped out of my hand - it never hit the ground - but the jolt it took as it was caught by the ear buds (which were still in my ears) has kept it from working ever since. I will be sending that to you along with $30.00 for repair soon. I'll take care of the PayPal upon receipt. Thanks Frank!"
The total cost to fix the Touch 2nd Gen was $80. Notice in the second photo there is perfect WiFi connectivity.
Fixed - Total cost $80.
