Gene Faucher called me first and then sent me an iPod from Los Gatos, California.
It was a pink Nano 4th Gen and it came with this story,
"Laura, (my wife) didn't realize that the iPod had gone through the wash until she heard the clunking sound in the dryer and rescued it... she plugged it into her computer and the Apple logo came on but nothing else ever showed up so we will put it in your capable hands and hope for a miracle!"
The miracle was delivered as requested. I was able to get the iPod working again perfectly. The total cost for Gene including shipping back was just $40 and all of the files remained safely on it.
Total cost of repair $40
Fixed - Total cost $40.

David Wolbert read about me in the Angie's List article
and called me from Fairfax, Virginia about his 1st Generation iPod Touch. He described a set of circumstances where the on/off switch at the top of the Touch wasn't actuating and turning the device on or off. I'd seen this once before recently. In his case the iPod would turn on and try to boot then go the trough the boot state and then shut down again. He thought the switch had been faulty all along.
When it got here, I replaced the switch and that made the difference. It worked perfectly afterward.
The switch was $15 and labor/return shipping was $60 so it was a $75 total to get it back working perfectly.
Fixed - Total cost $75.
