Amy Haas sent in a 2nd Generation iPod Touch from Aromas, California
with a problem I rarely see. She had the tip of her earbuds separate and remain in the earbud jack which kept the iPod from being used at all.
I tore the device down and was able to extract the tip. Her iPod works perfectly now and all of her files are still safely on it.
Total cost to get back her iPod and finally working was $60
Fixed - Total cost $60.

Phillip Atlas called me from Plantation, Florida about his Black 6th Generation video iPod
that he left out in the rain. I explained I was quite good at that modle getting about 14 of 15 of them working again post water immersion. I sent him an email back summarizing the instructions I had given him on how to send the iPod in.
Later that night I got this message back,
"Good evening Frank,
I hope you do not mind my asking, but I had several of my friends that were recently taken advantage of with mail-in ipod repair facilities, where they were never contacted again, and/or their ipod(s) and payment never refunded. Their ipod(s) seemed to have vanished, really. I was wondering what assurances you can provide that this would not occur to me. Again, I'm sure you can understand my concerns.
Thank you in advance,
Philip"
This is always a tricky subject. I live by an excruciating "guy code". The ethics bar in this is quite high. I responded back,
"Did you see any reluctance in my answering your phone call? That would be pretty nervy if this was a scam.
Did you notice the 1500 previous customers I wrote about here:
http://www.isickbay.com/recent_fixes_100.shtml
I think you need a class of friend that has a better spidey sense."
The iPod arrived a few days later and I went through the repair. This was a strange case where the headphone jack didn't work after water exposure, very rare.
The replacement headphone jack/hold-lock switch was $35 and labor was $40... *AND* it did get sent back and he *DID* receive it.
Total cost $75
Fixed - Total cost $75.

Samantha Cramm called me from Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota.
She had dropped her Pink 16GB Nano 4th Gen model briefly into bath water. After we got off the phone, I sent her instructions on how to send the iPod in.
It got here a few days later with a note saying, "we have been unable to power it up. I'm hoping youcan repair it."
I took it apart and went through the iPod. This was a case where I needed to replace the LCD screen. Once I got the iPod working the backlight for the LCD wouldn't work.
With the new LCD, I was able to get it working again perfectly. The CLD was $33 and labor/return shipping was $40, but for $73 she didn't have to replace the $200 iPod.
Fixed - Total cost $73.
