Carron Horcut sent me a message that read,
"I would like you to take a look at an ipod touch...are you available?
Sent from my iPhone"
I asked by reply, "do you live in the area?"
and she came back with, "I do not. I am in the Little Rock, Arkansas area. Is that a deterrent?"
Sometimes I can't tell if someone wants to bring me their iPod or send it in and I'll get a request from someone local that sounded like hers.
She sent it in. It's a 8GB Touch 2nd Gen and it came with a note about it. "I tried the hair dryer on it.. stood it in a jar rice for 3 days. Then decided it was dead... learning Apple would not repair it... I gave up. You are my "what if" try :)"
I'm happy to report I was able to get her iPod back working perfectly. Throughout this site you will find others that have come to think rice immersion after water immersion is a "method of repair". It's a method of robbing the possible saving of the device's life. The YouTube video people watch doesn't show the iPod being dropped in water or even how long the "immersion" occurred. It only shows someone taking a "now working" iPod out of rice with the claim it was fully immersed in water. If it had shown the immersion and then time lapse photography it might have some "truthiness" but it's really only a "David Copperfield" moment with the claim something has happened off stage.
I took Carron's Touch apart and went through it. I was able to get it working again perfectly with no additional parts being needed.
Total cost $60, notice the WiFi connection is working perfectly in the detail shots.
Fixed - Total cost $60.

Carl Harral sent me his iPod from Redding, California.
It's a Black 4th Generation Nano, and it came with a letter that read,
"Frank,
I am so glad you offer your services to us i-Pod addicts! Thank You.
The story: Last Saturday I fell out of my boat (another story) with my iPod in my pocket. I placed it on the dash of my truck hoping it would dry out and start working again. I tried to power it up with no luck. I hope you can resurrect it for me. Thanks again."
I am able to make 7 out of 8 of this model work again post immersion. Of the 7 I *can* make work 3 need a replacement LCD. Carl was one of the three.
I got it working perfectly again and all of files were still safely on it.
The LCD was $33 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $73.
