James Nienstedt called me from Lafayette, New Jersey about his iPod Touch
1st Generation model. It had been dropped in water. I have a fairly good record in putting that model back on its feet again after one of those episodes. Typically I can save 90% of Touch 1st Gen models. In his case I think the battery was fully charged and that created a condition where the LCD screen was shorting as James continued to turn it on to see if "it still worked". That shorting between the jack on the logic board and the LCD continued for so long that it destroyed the connection on the logic board *and* the LCD itself.
There was too much wrong with his iPod to repair and I sent it back with a $30 refund.

Chris Bowman lives here in Santa Rosa, California
and called me about his 5th Gen video iPod. He wanted to know if he could buy the part so he could install it himself. I explained that I don't sell parts, largely because I under price them specifically so the repair can be done by me employing my experience at the task. I went on to explain the problems people have at this the first several times typically and agreed I should do the job.
He brought over one morning on the way drop his daughter at day care and was able to swing by an hour later and pick it up finished.
The LCD was $23 and labor was $40. For $63 he got iPod back working perfectly with all of his songs safely still on it.
Fixed - Total cost $63.

Robin La France sent her daughter's 4th Generation Nano iPod
in from Fayetteville, Arkansas after sending me this message,
"I am sending my daughter's ipod to you to fix it. Yesterday she dropped it in a glass of ice tea. She has an anxiety disorder and her music is very important to her. It is a new form of nano ipod. I hope you can resuscitate it!"
When it arrived I tool it apart and went through it all. In her case, the LCD screen was showing only white, (the backlight) no data was painting to it so the LCD screen had to be replaced.
I sent her this message once I had it working.
"The Sir McGiggles II iPod has been a bigger and longer project than an average patient save for me, but I have the iPod working perfectly again.
I don't tell people the result until I have it working and have it all closed up and functioning perfectly as an independent object.
It did require a replacement LCD, because the backlight in the original I couldn't get working.
His 1047 songs are still safely on the device. It looks terrific.
I'm going to send a PayPal request for the $33 LCD screen, cover that and it will on the way back to you tomorrow morning."
The LCD was $33 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $73.
