Amy Wells lives in Rincon Valley near the area I grew up
in fact she is near my former Junior High. Amy had the classic problem of hearing in only one side of the earbuds in her 5th Gen video iPod. She came by and left it off, then went shopping for a while and it was ready for later when she came by.
The headphone jack/hold-lock switch part was $28 and labor was $40
Fixed - Total cost $68.

Charlie Bryden called me one day from Union City
to discuss his 4th Generation iPod that clickwheel problems. I've written an article on that problem specifically and went on to describe how he should let the power drain drain completely from the battery and let the logic board "have to" reset the scroll wheel's data entry port.
He tried that and he still didn't have scroll wheel utility and called to tell me he was sending it in to get a scroll wheel replacement. When it got here I took the device apart and discovered the problem wasn't his scroll wheel itself, but corrosion that had built up on two of it's ribbon connections that was keeping the circuit connection working properly.
I cleaned the connection and tested it. It worked perfectly again and then went on to replace the battery for him.
The battery was $10 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $50.

Andy Pulaski lives in Petaluma, California
and swears the Pulaski fire fighting tool wasn't named after him ;) His wife had been in email contact with me about their iPod. It's a 5th Gen video iPod that had hearing from the left side only. He called to set up a time when he could come by and drop it off while he went to Costco.
An hour later he was done there and came to get it. The headphone jack part was $28 and labor was $40
Fixed - Total cost $68.

Kirk Widlund called me from Aurora, Colorado about his 6th Gen iPod
that was dropped in water. I went over the specifics about how to sent it in and it arrived a few days later in the same soaking wet leather case it was in when it was dropped in the water.
The device was completely saturated still inside when I got it opened. I methodically started at it and the next day I had working again. It required a replacement LCD and the battery was corroded badly because it had a good charge when it hit the water.
But I did get it working again perfectly and all of Kirk files were safely still on the drive. The battery was $19, the LCD was $41 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $100.
