Michael Ocampo is high school student in South San Francisco
His Blue 2nd generation iPod went through the washer *and * the dryer getting pretty banged up. He sent it in to me with a $40 money order.
After taking it apart and doing my best to solve its problems I was unable to get to work correctly again. Though it seemed to work properly... the screen came on, the scroll wheel worked, menu selection occurred and songs played. The iPod's battery would not hold a charge, the battery 'smart board' was shorted in the washer.
After about an hours uninterrupted play the device stopped in the middle of a song and went no further. All functions ceased operation. I un-plugged it, waited and tried it with the same result several times.
I couldn't make it work properly, so Michael will get it back with a $20 bill as a refund of half the labor fee. This one I couldn't fix.

George Cruz called me from Manteca, California
with a fairly typical problem he needed solved. About 2 years ago he bought a 4th generation Photo iPod on eBay pre-loaded with music. This was during a time when you could still advertise that you had a collection of songs of desired genre on the iPod to add to the device at time of sale. In essence you wouldn't have to buy the CD's or buy the songs from Apple's iTunes store.
The problem with this is the iPod itself is synced to another iTunes Library and you can never update the iPod software or migrate the music to your own iTunes Library... until he came across me!
He sent his iPod in. The mission was to replace the battery, extract the music from the device, re-format the drive so the files were packed on a known good platter surface again, and then move the music files back to the drive in such a way that the iPod would be used as a 'file transport vehicle' to ship the songs back in such a way that could permanently add them to his own iTunes Library.
The job came off with complete success. He got near 30GB's of music in an operationally factory new device back to him along exact instructions on how to copy back the songs to his iTunes Library permanently.
He paid $16 for the battery and $40 for the data extraction/re-formatting/shipping back.
Fixed - Total cost $56.

Jody Yanover email one day from Bellmore, New York
about her 2nd Generation Pink 4GB Nano iPod. While she was vacationing over Christmas she had been floating in a pool with her iPod. (Obviously not vacationing in New York.) The iPod was laying on her and she shifted in some and it slide off into the water and stopped working immediately.
She waited until she got home and sent it along with a check for $40 on Monday December 31st, New Years Eve 2007.
I got it on the 4th of January and took it apart right away. Water immersion cases always go to the front of the line because they are time critical. The an iPod that has been dropped in water, or dropped in a toilet, or run through the washing machine goes without treated and processed for the dropped in water accident, the greater the chance that lead oxide corrosion will build up at the solder points and lift the discreet parts blowing them off the logic board permanently and irreplaceably.
After 3 hours I had "Mom's iPod" working again perfectly... perfectly.
This one I saved, total cost to her was $40.
Fixed - Total cost..$40.
