Keith Hammond works for Tim O'Reilly and Dale Dougherty at O'Reilly and Associates in Sebastopol.
He also lives in Sebastopol. He also works at two of their magazines. He is the Copy Chief for Craft,: transforming traditional crafts and he is also the Copy Sheif for Make.
He has a 5th Gen video iPod that had hearing from just one side... the left side. He brought it in to me late in the evening around 7pm and left it off for me to repair. Rather make another trip into town to get it the next day I suggested he let me send it back to him.
I had the work done by the next morning and the was on the way to West County by the afternoon so he would have it the next day.
The head phone jack was $28 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $68.

Yadira Cerda sent me a message on April 3rd 2009 from Daly City , California that read,
"I would like my 30 GB ipod fixed.
I can only hear it from the left side.
Also, I have to keep lock, otherwise, the ipod stops playing.
Is this something than can be fixed?
Thanks!"
I sent back information that showed I understood the problem and how to correct it. It finally arrived on Tax Day April 15th 2009. The funds to cover the repair had been PayPal'd in. I had the repair finished and the iPod back on the way to Daly City that afternoon. I doubt the device was even noticed missing in the two days it took to get here and back.
The headphone jack/hold-lock switch was $28 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $68.

Rick Rothbart sent me an email one morning from what I thought was San Francisco
because of the are code of the phone number, but he proved to live here in Santa Rosa. The message read,
"Hello,
I have a 5th generation 30 GB ipod. Music does not play out of the right side unless I squeeze on the top half of the iPod. I would like to get this repaired today if possible, I live right down the street so I can hurry over there if that's necessary."
I called him and we set a time for him to bring the iPod in. This is a problem I've fixed many times and had his iPod ready for him an hour later. The replacement part was $28 and labor was $40
Fixed - Total cost $68.
