Mary Sue Lux sent mer her 3rd Gen Nano iPod from Union Grove, Wisconsin.
She had put the iPod through the washing machine. I was able to get it working again but it required a new LCD screen.
Her files were still safely on it when I was finished. The LCD was $22 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $62.

Lauries Hrabak's son Kyle Hrabak sent me an email from Chagrin Falls, Ohio about his 2nd Gen iPod Touch that read,
"alright so right now my ipod touch 2nd gen is not working. i was working on setting up our pool for the year when i climbed up onto our deck were we don't have stairs. I've done this thousands of times so i wasn't being super careful. there is a small ledge that you have to walk around to get on the deck i was walking on the ledge when i lost my footing and fell into the pool with my ipod in my pocket. i quickly got out of the pool and ran inside to dry off the ipod. being scared that my ipod might be dead i tried turning it on which it worked but the screen was dull and the touch screen wasn't very responsive. the the screen went black and wasn't working. my family has dropped other things like phones in water and then put them in rice which helped dry it out to make it work. so i put it in a large bag of rice and left it there overnight in the morning i tried to plug it into my computer but nothing happened. i still have the warranty on the ipod but it does not cover water damage. Can this be fixed???
Thanks
kyle"
I emailed back how to send it in and it arrived almost three weeks later. I mention frequently that things get very dicey in terms of my ability to make a difference.
I wasn't able to get the Touch working again and I can attribute this directly to his jacking around with rice and thinking he could wait this out. This type of problem doesn't fix itself. Waiting it out or ricing it out doesn't work once the interior of a Touch has had water spread around in it.
I sent it back after working three days on it with a $30 refund.

Christopher Haskins called me from El Dorado Hills, California about his son's iPod.
It's a 6th Gen 80GB video iPod that stopped working after his son had dropped it. On the phone I described the how the drive in the iPod worked and how its tight mechanical specifications can easily be damaged by dropping it.
Chris sent the iPod in with crossed fingers. In fact the drive was permanently damaged and there wasn't anything I could do. His son wanted an 80GB replacement drive put in it.
The drive was $100 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $140.
