Robert Beauchamp called me from The Woodlands, Texas near Houston about his 6th Generation video iPod.
He sent it in with a note that summarized the circumstances.
"Enclosed is my non-functional iPod. I dropped this baby in a hotel toilet. Thankfully it was a clean hotel toilet."
There were too many things wrong with his iPod to contemplate repairing it. The LCd wouldn't work, his battery had fairly bad corrosion and his hard drive wouldn't accept updates or syncing.
With those parts needing to be replaced, I advised him it would be better to get a new and sent it back with a $20 refund.

Mark Walther sent me an iPod from Fremont, California where he lives with a note which read,
"My teenage son put his iPod through a clothes washer cycle. We let it sit a month before tried to turn it on. The screen comes up but but looks like snowy TV station after it goes off after midnight."
I was able to make his iPod work even better again after cleaning things up and replacing the LCD *and* the battery. The battery had corrosion on its leads and after a year and half would need to be replaced in the next year so as long as it was here and the labor/shipping back was already paid for, it was time.
The LCD was $33, the battery was $19 and labor/return shipping was $40 and Desmond's iPod works perfectly again.
Fixed - Total cost $73.

Katherine Sefton lives west of here in Forestville, California and called me about her 6th Gen video iPod
that had hearing the left side only. We discussed how batteries work in an iPod and she decided to get a new battery at the same time she was getting her headphone jack replaced.
The battery was $19, the headphone jack/hold-lock switch piece was $35 and labor was $40. Looks like new and works like new.
Fixed - Total cost $94.
