Stephanie Stirm emailed me from Medford, Oregon about her 5th Gen video iPod. The message read,
"My iPod will no longer hold a charge. I would like to have you fix it if possible. How do I arrange a repair?"
I sent here instructions and it arrived a few days later. She paid my labor rate of $40 using PayPal and I went to work sorting it out. It proved to be the obvious choice, her battery had been overcharged so many times, it wouldn't hold a charge and had to be replaced.
The battery was $19 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $59.

Harold Goodson called me on a Sunday. He works in Walnut, California
at a business called Associated Services which he describes as creating and delivering retail packaging. The problem he had is the LCd in his 160GB 6th Gen video iPod had been smashed and he needed to get it repaired. I laid what my LCD replacement service is like and that job LCD replacement is completed and shipped out to the client repaired the same day it arrives. He was skeptical and explained he was going to call around, he had a couple of other places to check out.
On Monday I got several more calls all slowly nudging toward maybe he would send it up to me. Finally I got a call at 7PM and he was at the FedEx depot and was going to send it that moment but had forgotten to bring my address with him. I gave him my address, while he went on to explain that he was having it delivered overnight so it would be there (here) the next morning.
The FedEx truck arrived before 10am and I replaced the LCD within the hour but not before Harold could call me and check to see if it arrived okay. I'll say it, he is obsessive and I'll bet this influences things for him continually. I always like a chance to fail first before someone calls to see if I have.
I had the iPod done, packaged and handed back to Rosa, my postal person when she arrived at noon.
The LCD was $33 and labor/return shipping as $40 so it was $73 total.
Since Harold and I haven't really used email I'll be surprised if I get an atta boy, but let's see... UPDATE, he called me the Monday after it arrived which was Friday at 9:30 and congratulated me for getting it done and back to him by Friday. He was really impressed, is keeping my card and will let all of friends know about me.
Fixed - Total cost $73.
