I got an from Kevin Sullivan in Barrington, Inninois that read,
"Hey Frank

My son left his car moon roof open and it rained four inches. Ipod hasn't worked since. Do you think you can fix it?

If so, I'll put it in the mail to you.

Do you know the typical postage required?"

We exchanged a couple of emails and I came to know he had a 6th Gen video iPod. and sent him instructions on sending it in. It arrived a few days later and by the next afternoon post arrival I had it all working again. In their case there was a problem with the logic board. The battery recharge circuits on the logic board had basically burnt out. My guess is they turned it on while wet *and * the battery had a pretty good charge.

The replacement logic board was $80 and they used PayPal to send it in. The total to get their iPod back working perfectly was $120

Fixed - Total cost $120.

Josh Whitfield called me from Hartwell, Georgia about his Silver 6th Gen 80GB video iPod.
He was having trouble syncing all the songs he wanted to it and brought it in to an Apple store where they declared it was water damaged. That's how he found me, because on planet earth, I'm the "iPod dropped in water guy". We discussed things and he sent it in.

I spent an afternoon going through it. There ZERO evidence of water exposure and to be honest the water indicator in it hadn't tripped, so the thing that was tripping was the "Apple Genius".

I did analyze what he was having problems with related to the drive and files syncing and had Josh call me. He revealed the way he was using iTunes and went over steps with him to simplify what he was doing relative to what he was trying to do. And then trained him on combining multiple Libraries and then how to do a BIG file write/sync so when he got his iPod back in a few days he would be ready to make it all work in his hands.

Total cost, including return shipping to Georgia was $40

Fixed - Total cost $40.

Andrea Walsh emailed me from her home in Atlanta, Georgia. The message read,
"Hello,

My iPod Classic (120 GB) just took a water dive. I'd like to arrange a fix. Are you familiar with Classic or just iPod Touch?

I'm still not quite sure how, but it a dive in the toilet. I tool it out immediately and probably did the worst thing possible: plugged it in and tried to turn it on. The screen then showed a sad face (with X's for eyes). Does this sign lower the chance of bringing it back to life?

Thanks,
Andrea"

I need to mention, that whether you turn the device on or off makes V-E-R-Y little difference. What does make a difference is how well charged the battery is. If the device has a dead battery, turning it off and on would have NO effect at all because there would be no electrical potential. If the battery is well charged then with water inside the device the battery contact and power supply points will short and arc whether the "switch" is turned on or not.

By the next afternoon I had Andrea's iPod running again. All of her music and photos were still safely on it. It did require a new battery.

The battery was $19 and labor/return shipping was $40

Fixed - Total cost $59.
