Emily Slatterey lives in Mentor Ohio (44060) and got a hold of me after she dropped her 16GB iPhone 3g
in a soft drink and it went un-noticed for what i understand is over night. I got this message from her over night,
"Hello Frank,
My name is Emily and I live in Northeast Ohio. Recently (a couple of days ago) I managed to drop my iphone 3g into a large cup of Pepsi. I tried every trick in the book to get it to start up again, from a bag of rice to the hairdrier. Finally I managed to get it to start up while it is plugged into the charger; however, as I tried to restore it, it is in recovery mode and I need some help. Do you think you would be able to fix it if I sent it to you? I would like to send it as soon as possible because this phone means a lot to me, and I don't want to risk waiting much longer.
Thanks,
Emily"
I emailed back my 'send it in instructions' and it arrived a full week later. Over the week end that it was here, I was able to stabilize it's processes, make a restore work and have it keep it's sanity.
The LCD screen still had a pile of soft drink trapped in the layers and needed to be replaced. That part was $30 along with the $60 labor rate the repair of her iPhone came to $90
Fixed - Total cost $90.

I live in California wine country... the real one in Northern California.
Not far south is Marin County, you've heard of it. It's one of the 4 highest income per household zip codes in the US. I got a call from Doug McIntosh who live in San Anselmo California (94960) which is in Marin County. He owns a group of personal fitness centers called "the Daily Method" that are in Marin and San Francisco.
While riding his mountain bike he took a horrible fall leaving the right side of his body covered in road rash. His iPhone even though in a rubber, ruggedized case got trashed... no other word for it... trashed. I've never seen such a bad upper glass destruction .
He used UPS to send it up and included the needed $19 to have be Express Mail it back to him so his total out of hand time was two days. He couldn't drive up even though I'm just 30 miles away.
The upper glass repair was $60 and the return shipping was $19
Fixed - Total cost $79.
