I got a call from Iris Preston who lives in Miami Florida (33142) about her 64GB iPod Touch 3rd Gen...
yes... this is the $500 model. She was calling me nearly 6 weeks after she dropped it in the toilet. These things happen, sometimes it's in a rear pocket and slips out, sometimes it's on a counter and gets knocked off into the toilet. She retrieved it right away but still....
I got it a few days later. After going through it, I wasn't able to make it work and I actually emailed her and said so. I refunded half of the $60 she had PayPal'd to me for the repair.
And then I actually couldn't stop working on it after all. I *really* hate add one to my fatality column so 3 more days later I had it working again, working again completely including the WiFi.
I did have to replace the LCD screen because it's backlight wouldn't work but it was much cheaper buying a new iPod.
The LCD was $45 and labor/return shipping was $60
Fixed - Total cost $105.

Molly Aiken called me from Huntersville North Carolina (28078) about her own Nano 4th gen.
It had an odd problem, the scroll wheel had stopped working. I've heard about these things happening before. In her case water had not damaged the scroll wheel connection, the Application Specific Integrated Circuit, had failed.
That scroll wheel is epoxied into the outer extruded aluminum housing... that means both parts have to be replaced. I never have an exact color replacement. Originally I thought I had a gold colored replaced, in fact it turned out to become Blue.
The part was $35 and labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $75.
