Tim Kraemer called me from Brooklyn Park Minnesota (55443) about his son Jack's 2nd Gen 16GB iPod Touch.
Wait for it... yes it was dropped in the toilet. The note that came with it read,
" Enclosed is an iPod Touch that we hope you can save. About 2 to 3 weeks ago my son dropped it tin the toilet. He cleaned it up and we placed it in a sealed bag of rice a week.
After we plugged it in the screen was blank with no power. It was a Christmas gift a year ago so it is not very old. We hope you can bring it back to life."
This one was here for 9 days before I got it all working again. It needed two parts.. an LCD screen and a new battery. The battery wouldn't hold a charge and the LCD screen didn't have a working back light.
The parts were $58 and labor/return shipping was $60
When they got it back I got this message,
"Hi Frank,
You might have to add 'magician' to your resume! I actually thought this was a lost cause. My son will be quite happy, (and hopefully a little more responsible). I'll have my wife take care of the pay pal request. Thank you!
Also will try to convince Ann to sample some of your wine selections I read about. We always enjoy a fine glass of wine.
Thanks again,
Tim K."
I'm also a wine maker
Fixed - Total cost $118.

Roberto Avila lives in San Rafael California (94907).
He works in restaurants... two of them. He has two separate jobs to hold things together in his household. The times are not like when they were for our parents. He dropped his iPhone in water and it was in sad shape.
I had it here for 4 days when he called to ask about it. I hadn't been able to make it work at all and told him so. I had imagined I would be giving him back a $30 refund of the $60 he left it with.
In fact I kept at it over the weekend and was able to get it working again. It did require replacing the LCD screen but it was FAR cheaper than the replacement.
He showed up expecting me to hand him back a non-working iPhone and got his back working for $30 for the LCD and $60 labor.
Did I forget to mention that he showed up with another iPod (3rd Gen Nano) that had gone through the washing machine? Yes even though I hadn't been able to make the phone work (he thought) he was still ready for me to have a go another device for him.
Fixed - Total cost $90.
