Jess Biscoe called me from Prescott Wisconsin (54021). He has a 160GB 6th generation video iPod
that he was listening to while it rested on his knee as he was ice fishing. No really! Of course the iPod slipped off the knee and went into the ice hole. I'm not even sure how he got it back out.
It arrived about 6 days after the incident the iPod arrived here. I was finally able to make every aspect of it work again except the battery. That part was $23 so he got his iPod back with everything still on it for $63
Fixed - Total cost $63.

Austin Johnson called me from Wichita Kansas (67218) about his 5th Gen video iPod.
He had two problems...
1) hearing int he left ear only
2) he didn't have a copy of his music anywhere.
These problems I've solved many times before. The headphone was damaged when it was dropped with the earbuds plugged in and needed to be replaced. The data extraction was necessary because his Windows computer "took a dump" (as they all do) and took all of his files with it.
When the iPod arrived I replaced the headphone jack. That part was $28 and labor was $40. I also replaced the faceplate at no charge because his looked so bad it was hard to read the screen.
The data extraction and file parking is part of my normal $40 labor charge so it was included too. Notice in this screen thee is only 5GB of space left with just 2122 songs on it? That's because there is a backup copy of all the songs hidden on the iPod drive and I included instructions on how to add them back to iTunes Library. In fact, he can 'gift' them to as many friends as he likes.
Fixed - Total cost $68.

Arlene Chew called me from San Francisco California (94118) about her 5th Gen video iPod
*(which she refers to as "Julie Andrews"). The problem she was having centered on a water bottle spill in her purse. The primary mission however was to get the files off of her iPod since that was the only place she had them.
The iPod arrived a few days later and went through it to repair the water damage. In her case the water had destroyed her logic board so the scroll wheel function wouldn't work any longer. That meant she actually had to get a new iPod since working logic boards from that vintage rare due to a know known design defect. I pulled the drive and put it in another working system and was able to get the songs extracted.
I sent a message on how to get a new iPod cheaply and she sent the replacement. I copied the files to the new system and included instruction on how she is to add them back to her iTunes Library again permanently.. in fact, she can bring the files and "gift" them to any of her friends too. In the photo you can see where there is 42.4GB of "Other" those are the songs waiting for her.
Total cost at my end $40, which included shipping back. A full days work.
Fixed - Total cost $40.
