Greg Geary emailed me from Romulus Michigan (48174) about his 32 GB 3GS iPhone
($750 replacement through AT&T) which he put through the washing machine. The message read,

"Hello Frank,

I've had the opportunity to read through your site and am hoping you can help me. I had a really stressful weekend (death in the family) and accidentally put my jeans in the wash with my new iphone in the pocket. it went through a full wash cycle, until during the spin cycle i noticed a banging coming from the machine.

Needless to say, I'm gutted... do you think you can repair it?

Greg Geary"

We negotiated how he would "live without it" for a couple of days and he sent it in to me. It arrived from Yipslanti Michigan a day later. I went through and was able to get it working completely again. This was a larger than average project, and his whole life transpires on his iPhone so he was quiving the whole time.

I needed to replace the power/docking port module and the LCD in it. The LCD backlight had failed so you could see things on the screen and the docking was needed to because the battery wasn't charging through it. I stayed in contact with him the entire time it was here, which was less than ONE day.

It was flown back to him Express Mail so it arrived to him TWO days after he sent it. I got this message back,

"I wanted to let you know that you have restored my faith in people with this whole support affair. I know that sounds cheesy or cliche, but it's sincere.

I happened upon your site from a Google search, desperate to somehow undo my stupidity. My buddies at work said I must be nuts to send my $500 device to a unknown person on the other side of the country. I went back home, trolled through your success stories and whole site, and decided to send it in. The service, 'white glove' in my opinion, went EXACTLY as described - quick, efficient, with very responsive communication. You did everything you said you would do and more, for what I would consider a very reasonable price..

I cannot thank you enough.

Kind regards,

Greg"

Fixed - Total cost $140.

Armen Carapetian called from his work at The Foundation of City College of San Francisco (94110)
on Valencia Street in SF. He had come back from a trip to Mexico for New Years and found the family iPod, which is his wife's didn't work any longer. It's a 6th Gen 160GB video iPod that is as under utilized as they all are. He brought it to the Apple store in downtown San Francisco and one of the geniuses there said it had corrosion on the power connection which meant the warranty was now void since they aren't for use under water.

He was mystified about when the water exposure could have happened and found me on the internet. We discussed things and he sent it in with $40 and crossed fingers.

I went through it and was able to get Dr. Ko (his wife name is Kohar) working again. I had to replace the battery, because the positive leads had corroded away.

The battery was $23 and labor was $40. The total charge to get his $400 iPod back working was $63 with all the files still safely on it.

I got this message from him after it got back to him

"Frank,

Thank you for helping to resuscitate my iPod. You da man:-)

Keep on rockin',
Armen"

Fixed - Total cost $63.
