Max Van Soest emailed me from San Rafael California (94901).
He is a previous client, the message read,
"Frank,
I have used your services before regarding an ipod. I recently dropped my iphone in the toilet and everything went out on it. After reading some articles on how to fix it I tried letting it dry out hoping that it would work after a few days. I have let it dry out and everything seems to be working fine except the backlight is out and not functioning. I was wondering when and if this problem could be fixed. I live in san rafael but will be in Santa Rosa on monday. I will not have my phone on me today but will have it on monday the 15th.
Thank you in advance,
Max Van Soest"
Max has a White 32 GB iPhone 3GS, the b-i-g one. He came up and dropped it off. About two days later I had working again. In Max's case the LCD had to be replaced and that a pricey replacement at the moment. The part was $85 but well below having to shell out $700 to AT & T for a new one.
Fixed - Total cost $145.

Jim Sirois called me from Petaluma, California (94952) about his son's 2nd Gen iPod Touch.
He knew the upper glass had been cracked and now the digitizer wasn't picking up his son Thomas's finger movements. Now it was a crisis *and* Christmas was in a couple of days.
He brought it up to me (an 11 mile drive) and we filled out the repair tag. Then I turned it on to "validate his diagnosis" and discovered the device had a much larger problem, it was unformatted with memory corruption. Now the mission had changed to... "can I get the device to work at all?"
Initially in front of him, while he waited, I wasn't able to. He left it off with $60 and crossed his fingers. Late the next afternoon I had worked through the problem and had replaced the upper glass and digitizer for him.
This is Thomas picking up his iPod. The total cost was $99 get 16GB back and working like new.
Fixed - Total cost $99.

Paul Vanek teaches at Maria Carrillo High School in Rincon Valley
and lives here in Santa Rosa California (95404). I went to Rincon Valley Junior High that is next to Maria Carillo as a youngster. He teaches in the English department and called when he lost hearing in the right side of his 5th Gen video iPod.
It was a Sunday when he called, and like all surgeons I'm available when a patient needs my help. I told him to bring it over right away.
While it was here we agreed it was time to replace the battery.
The headphone jack was $28, the battery was $16 and labor was $40... works like new now.
Fixed - Total cost $84.
