Darryl Young called me from Old Hickory Tennessee (37138).
He works for Bridgestone/Firestone tire company. We discussed the fun I've had in Nashville... my lifelong best friend PauL Taylor lives there and is a producer/arranger/composer so we discussed different bars on Demonbreun Rd. He had given their son Fred a 32GB 3rd Gen iPod Touch for Chrismas a few months earlier and it had been run through the washing machine with a load of wash mid-April.
I got it on a Saturday and that day and part of the next making it work again completely. Including the WiFi. It neede two parts, the LCD had to be replace and I had to de-solder the old battery and put in a new one. The water immersed one wouldn't carry a charge.
The parts were $64 and labor/return shipping was $60. Even at $124 the perfect repair was just a third of buying a new one.
Fixed - Total cost $124.

I got a call from Jim Gledhill who lives in Clovis California (93611) about his 80GB 6th Gen video iPod.
In the letter he sent it in with he descibed the problems as this.
"It was running just fine on Tuesday. I was listening on the airplane, then I set it down to sit at the back of the plane for a while. I'm pretty sure I stopped the playing first, but when I returned about an hour later and pushed play, I got nothing.
I tried to charge it and sync it and got no screen activity.'
I went through the device and put it back on it's feet. I also sent him this message,
"
This is the point where I need you to change the way you charge the device. Buy one of these Apple A1205 wall adapters. They are $8 delivered:

It will come with wall connection and a good USB cable. This device delivers enough current to keep your iPod healthy. A windows based computer's USB connection is flakey.
Also read this article about the battery type and how to charge it.

Fixed - Total cost $40.
