Sarah Houston emailed me from Mendocino California (95460) where she lives.
The message read,
"Hi Frank,
i hope that you are havng a great day!!
I am so happy that there are people like you to assist us in the repair of our ipods, I wish I would have known about you 5 ipods ago!!
Anyway, I have 2 brand new ipod touches ( one that my son had 4 hours before entering the ocean for a swim and forgot that his exciting new ipod was in his swim shorts pocket!!
Can you repair water damaged ipods, if so I have 2?
Please let me know the next step if so?"
I replied with the 'send it in' instructions and they arrived here a couple of days later.
The sea water one I couldn't do a thing about. It was destroyed and rusting. The other one I was able I was able to get working again completely. No parts needed to be replaced, the total cost for it's repair was $60
Fixed - Total cost $60.

Katie Keller called me from Falls City Nebraska (68355) about her Touch 2nd Gen.
Somewhere along the line she had sropped it with her earbuds plugged in and had destroyed the headphone jack connection for the left side hearing. Touch models have the left and right positions reversed from the hard drive based iPods.
She needed me to de-solder and re-solder in a new headphone jack. We discussed our way through what needed to be done and how to send it in.
It arrived days later and worked my magic on it. Remember, the Touch model iPod is built specifically with the intent that it never be repaired, that I am out here and know how to do these things has to be a awkward for the maker.
The new headphone jack was $29 and labor was $60. It works like new again.
Fixed - Total cost $79.
