Phillip Thompson lives and works in Irvine California (92627).
In fact he works in the Drama Department at UC Irvine. By coincidence, my Uncle Dr Francis M Crinella also teaches at University of California at Irvine in the Psychology department. Phillip had a mis-hap with his $350 2nd Gen 16GB iPod Touch. Phillip's story is,

"I'm sending you my iPod Touch 2G in the hopes that you'll be able to repair it. I imagine my story is similar to many you have heard. With my iPod in my breast pocket, I leaned over to let the water out of the bath tub. I heard it plunk into the water and immediately began groping through the water to find it. I'd be surprised if it was in there for more than 2 seconds. I took it out of its case and towelled it off. I'm fairly certain that I didn't try turning it on, but the whole event was a panicked blur. I started googling and came away with what seems like the most common advice. I placed the iPod face down in a bowl of rice and left it for 72 hours. That time has elapsed and I've tried turning it on and plugging it in to my computer via USB - and tehre's nothing going on. It is as the kids say, a 'brick'."

I had it here for 4 days and went through it meticulously. By the end of my process I had it working again... working C-O-M-P-L-E-T-E-L-Y. It needed to have the LCD replaced and that part was $43. Notice even the WiFi connection is working and all of his files were still safely on it.

Total cost was $103

Fixed - Total cost $103.

I got an email from Pearce Sloan of Chester, South Carolina (29706) on January 3rd 2010.
The message read,

"Hey my name is Pearce Sloan. I'm from Chester SC and am a senior in high school. My mom recently bought me a ipod touch 8g and I had a friend update the songs for me. Well I work three jobs and definitely understand the value of a dollar and know how hard it was for my mom (who's a single mom) to get me this, example I'm typing this as I just got off work and am getting ready for work at 6am tmw b4 school. That's y I feel so bad bout what happened today. Well the friend brought me the ipod back to me at work (lifeguard at the towns YMCA) and after kicking the ball and cones into the pool left. Here's the good part, when I leaned over to clean up after my great friends my brand spanking new ipod touch fell out of my hoodie pocket and 5 feet 6 in deep in the pool. First I broke into tears and about jumped in to save it, but sense took over and I fished it out with the net within 30 seconds. It was locked when it went in so I hope it didn't short circuit. I dried it immediately and shook what water I could out but had to go to work as a waitress n ten minutes so I put it n rice when I got to work and am terrified to mess it up further. Am I a lost cause?"

I sent him some specifics on my work and he sent the Ipod in with $60 in cash and the hope I would be able to get it working again.

After 3 days I had all aspects working again including you will notice the WiFi connection. There was some water trapped in the LCD screen's layers but not so much that I thought it would be a problem for him.

On January 10th I sent it back. The total cost was $60 to get his Touch 2nd Gen back and working perfectly.

Fixed - Total cost $60.
