Paige Warmerdam is a special Ed teacher at Montgomery High School here in Santa Rosa (95405).
She brought her 5th Gen 60GB video ipod to have the battery replaced at another place here in the Bay Area but the new battery still wasn't holding a charge so she brought it to me.
I made a couple of discoveries. One was the logic board had damage to the battery recharging circuits that would prohibit a good battery from taking a charge. This should have been more thoroughly examined at the other place, it was obvious.
The other thing is... that it wasn't a new battery either. Once I had the recharge circuits working again, the worn battery wouldn't hold a charge. Closer inspection revealed it was used taken from another iPod and pressed into service for her repair.
The replacement *real* battery for her was $16 and labor was $40. This is the kind of smiling face I like.
Fixed - Total cost $56.

Vincent Wong lives in Sacramento California (95823) and sent me his iPod for repair.
It had a couple of things that were a problem. The LCD was cracked and the battery wasn't holding the charge it used to. This repair went well. The replacement LCD was $22, the new battery was $16, I put on a much better faceplate at no charge and the labor/return shipping was $40.
Works perfectly, looks waaay better.
Fixed - Total cost $78.

Wesley Fisher called from Petaluma California (94952) where he lives and works.
He's in the Coast Guard and does information Technology work. We discussed this since he and I have a similar background. Like me he has experience with Linux/Unix and phone systems. Like me he has found that has to use Windows as part of his work, but at Home has a 23" iMac that he uses personally and his wife Dusty is using a new iBook. He knows that the Mac OS is derived from BSD Unix and knows it isn't susceptible to the catastrophic disasters he has to clean up at work for the Coast Guard where they use Windows XP and are now just transitioning to Vista evens though Windows 7 has been out for months.
His iPhone had a smashed upper glass/digitizer *and* LCD screen. He left it off for repair and had his wife pick it up late in the day after she got off work. She is also in the Coast Guard stationed at the Two Rock Coast Guard Station.
The parts were $60 and labor was $60. The time frame was 60 minutes.
This is his wife Dusty picking it up.
Fixed - Total cost $120.
