Mark Manta is a lawyer and works in Doylestown Pennsylvania (18901).
He called one day and discussed the problem he was having with his 5th gen video ipod. It didn't take too long for me to realize that it had been dropped one time too many and he had a failed hard drive.

I emailed him a list of possibilities for drive replacement that ranged from a 30GB which his device had already to a up to a 120GB drive. I always encourage people toward the 30GB drive. It holds 35 times more material than you can play in a single battery charge and I've noticed that at any moment in life people listen to most the 30 CD's that are relevant to their life at a given moment. Changing the songs every three months takes 6 seconds *if* you use playlists.

He went with the 30GB suggestion. The drive was $60 and labor/return shipping was $40

Fixed - Total cost $100.

Terry Tassin lives in Portland Oregon (97239) and sent me her son's iPod Touch
with a note that read,

" Hi Frank. Is your hospital still taking patients?

This will be a retunr patient for you - 3rd Gen 8GB iPod Touch you saved last fall with a water immersion issue. Now it has a cracked screen as a result of a 6 year old's frustration with a game called "Cornhole!". I can't really blame her - the damn thing does (game) does get frustration...

The device still functions despite the crack and the slight skewing of the docking port. I had a screen protector on, which has been helping hold the broken glass in place somewhat."

This is a repair that was finished and sent back the same day. The upper glass was $19 and labor/return shipping was $60

Fixed - Total cost $79.

Steve Mayer is a lawyer that lives in Berkeley California (94701)
but practices law in San Francisco California at 3 embarcadero Center. He called me from his home on a Friday night after 7PM. I imagine he was using the internet to find answer to problem, and because I tell people I'll answer the phone up until 8PM he decided to see if it was true.

He has a 5th Gen video iPod and was getting sound out of just the left side. I've covered the cause of this before, but in brief, it's because the the earbud was jammed far enough into the jack that it snapped off the right side positive connection.

He sent it in the Monday following and I had it repaired and sent back within a day of receipt.

The replacement part was $28 and labor/return shipping was $40

Fixed - Total cost $68.
