Michael Lively lives in San Francisco California (94101) and gave me a call about his 80GB 5th Generation video iPod.
He had left it outside by accident and where it got rained on for a couple of days and now it didn't work. He sent it up to me and just hoping I'd be able to bring it back to life again.
It was a dicey case, but ultimately I prevailed and got the logic board and hard drive working again. It needed a new battery and the LCD had no backlight so it needed replacing, but all of his files were safe.
The battery was $23 and and the LCD was also $23, labor/return shipping was $40 bringing it to an $86 recovery.
A few days later I got this message from Michael,
"frank,
just wanted to follow up and say that i received the ipod back and it's working fine.
thanks!
michael"
Fixed - Total cost $86.

Justin Abrahamson lives here in Santa Rosa (95404) and has the Viking Pool Service business.
He's also an iPod user. You can almost see where this going....
One day he dropped his iPod in a swimming pool. Not for long, but for long enough. Lucky for him, I live here in town. His 120GB 6th gen is a model I can make work again in 14 out of 15 water cases. In his case I had it all working the next day except his hard drive. Even a full autopsy of the drive to try to put it back on its feet failed.
He chose a 30GB replacement drive, which is more enough for almost every user on the planet since it can hold 35 times more material than a single battery charge can play.
The drive was $60 and labor was $40 so for $100 he got back a terrific fully functioning ipod again.
Fixed - Total cost $100.

James Wolfe called me from Cleveland, Texas (77327) about his 5th Gen video iPod.
He was having a problem getting videos to run and be displayed on his iPod and decided to send it in with $40 so I could take a look at it.
It arrived a couple days later and I took it apart looking for trouble and he also wanted to replace the faceplate with one less scratched. I was able to get the video to play properly and then suggested it was time to replace the battery (these things are intended to last 3 years) along with the faceplate.
The battery was $23 and labor/faceplate/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost $63.
