Bancroft Ellis called me from Lakeville Massachusetts (02347).
It was about his daughters 5th Gen 80GB iPod. He had two problems to solve... one was the device wasn't working partably. That could be the battery or another problem. When it was plugged into a wall adapter of it would work, but the docking cable to her computer wouldn't charge the battery.
The second problem was... well it's a bit of a story... his daughter bought a new iPod.... but that new one *and* her laptop were lost when her home burned down in a residential fire last winter. the only copies of her music existed on that iPod alone.
I sometimes get sentimental cases here, things that are given by relatives who die unexpectedly not long after...children in car accidents and their iPod meant everything to them so their folks want them repaired to rest with them...
This wasn't exactly that deep, but it's fairly close....
The iPod arrived a few days later and a new battery made the difference. That model requires a certain hefty amount of current to kick the hard drive's platter into rotation. A tired old battery can't store the needed current.
I was able to run the Data Extraction and File parking for him, in the way that I did it for Jason Rockhill...
And flew the device back with instructions for her to add the files back to her new iTunes Library again permanently.
Fixed - Total cost $100.

David Franzman lives here in Santa Rosa and teachs American History and world History a few blocks away at Santa Rosa High School.
He uses an iPhone 3Gs (the wise choice considering how poorly the proximatey indicator works in the i4) but dropped the phone shattering its upper glass and digitizer.
I set a 30 minute appointment for him and had his iPhone as good as new. The total cost was $75.
Fixed - Total cost $75.
