Ellie Poe lives in Santa Rosa California (95404) and called about her husband Ken's 6th Gen 120GB Video iPod.
They are Windows users and somehow the original Windows machine that had their iTunes Library on it was un-available. But the real problem is the iPod lacked data connectivity through the USB port and there wasn't anything they could to update the material on it.
So the project was two fold.
1) replace the logic board so the iPod would completely functional again.
2) run a data extraction and park the files somewhere safely so I can move them back to their iPods hard drive in such a way that they can add them back to their iTunes Library again permanently
After analyzing the logic board the problem came from having the volume turned up too far on an external power amplifier the iPod was driving. When this happens the output caps on the iPod's power amplifier section are destroyed.
I replaced the logic board and then ran a data extraction using the new logic boards good data connections
The logic board was $80 and labor was $40
Fixed - Total cost $120.

Katie Shea lives in Mill Valley (94941) and emailed me about her iPhone 3G
which she had dropped in toilet many days earlier. In her case we set an appointment for when she was in town visiting her Mom.
That meeting was a week later, but I used the afternoon to go through the iPhone and get it working again.
In her case it needed two parts, one a necessity the other a recommendation.
The needed part was an LCD screen, hers was gone. The recommendation was a battery.
The LCD was $35, the battery was $20 and the labor aspect was $60
Fixed - Total cost $115.
