Josh Clark lives In Lynchburg Virginia (24502). He has been sending me things to repair for years.
I don't remember exactly how we found each other. From time to time I get an email saying he's sent an item for me to repair.
In early 2013 I got such an email about his White iPad 2 needing to be repaired. By pre-arrangement we always use PayPal for payment after the device has arrived, been repaired and is ready to go back to him.
His iPad 2 is a standard repair for me. The lower right corner was rather dented. To make the new piece of glass work I used a small rotary grinder to grind away the up-turned aluminum. The detail shot of the lower right corner shows how the job went.
Notice his iPad is also jailbroken and has Installous on it. The Jailbreak is un-disturbed with a screen replacement when I do it and all of the files on the device remain safely there.
Looks really good, huh? Total cost was $108
I got an email from Josh Clark who lives in LynchBurg Virginia (24502) that read in part,
"Hey Frank,
Hope all is well in California and you had a good Christmas. I am certainly sure you are busy with everything from the winery to beautiful weather and quite a few people wanting Apple products fixed... I sent you a few items to fix again, from Virginia. I have my family and friends requesting your contact info with every issue they cause to their Apple products... It seems my little brother has the same issue I do with dropping and cracking his phone. Just invoice me on PayPal as per usual and I will pay you immediately.
Thanks in advance. Feel free to call or email me with any issues. "
The two phones were an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 4S. One of the reasons Josh sends things to me is my perfectionist work.
There were some oddities with each of them so I approached each as a 'rebuild'.
The iPhone 4 got a new front and a new camera flash ring and ear piece screen. It repair total was $84
The iPhone 4S got a new front and a new back. The front was $84 and the backplate was $20 bringing the total for it to $104
The iPhone 4S got a new front and a new back. The front was $84 and the backplate was $20 bringing the total for it to $104
I got an email from Ryan Anderson who lives in Orange Park Florida (84105). The message subject line was "iPhone dropped in hot tub being sent to you".
It went on to say in part,
"Hi, my name is Ryan Anderson. I dropped my iPhone in the hot tub at 12:05 am on sun the 6th I am dropping it in the mail in the mail ASAP. I will be in flight from 2:30pm until 8:30pm pst. Today. After that I should be available. I hope you can save the day!!!!!!!!"
The $940 64GB iPhone 4S phone arrived a couple of days later with an explanation and note. I had the phone and worked my way through it over the course of a day and got it working again.
He decided to pay the additional $5 for priority mail back bringing the total to get his phone back all of photos, notes and iMessages to just $65
