This one started with a phone calls from Ben Loya who lives in Fort Worth Texas (76112).
The project was to performa data extraction of his iPod *and* his brother's iPod.
As I recall they are both Windows users, and the original computer that the iTunes Library was on had 'crashed'. I explained the process or the data extraction and file parking and then sent an email after that included the steps to send them iPods in along with $50 each and an external hard drive with space to store the contents of the iPods on.
A few days later everything arrived. Telling on the hard drive was a "Time Machine/Capsule" partition. Apparently after loosing everything on a PC more than once they decided a Apple Macintosh was a better choice to depend on. I agree with them. The only thing I keep on my PC are things that are absolutely no value *and* I never use my Windows 7 machine for anything that can compromise my world through identity theft. If you value the things you possess digitally including your reputation, you won't leave in the hands of Microsoft to care for.
My fairly lazy UPS driver "Big Joe" threw Ben's package over the front porch hand rail while parked in the red zone for the fire hydrant here. Then Joe drove off. If I hadn't seen the truck *seem* to pull away and drive east on Steele Lane I would have had no idea the package was out side waiting for about 'anyone' to pick up. Do not send things here using UPS.
By 4pm the same day I had the data extraction done and I sent the iPods and drive back the next day.
Total cost for everything including return shipping back was $100
Jason Goodwin called from here in Santa Rosa, California (95407) about his 6th Gen video iPod.
He was getting sound from just one ear a day ago and now got nothing. I knew the cause of this and told him it would cost $68 to get it working with perfect stereo again. Before we got off the phone, I sent him what are my 'send it in' instructions for that problem so he could tell I knew how to manage the issue.
He arrived the next afternoon with it and left it on the way to his work. He works at the Cleveland Ave Trader Joe's here in Santa Rosa. I had it finished for Jim to pick up on his lunch hour.
Jason and I also have the same taste in music, so we had a good conversation about Flight Facility and Adventure Club and a few other EDM acts while he was here.
Total cost to get it working again with perfect stereo - $68.
