I have fans of my in many places now. Some are in Washington DC and some work for Hewlett Packard and live in Santa Cruz (95062).
Mark Bailey works for HP. He sent an iPod Touch 3rd gen. I repaired his 5th Gen Video iPod a while back and got another iPod in the mail with a letter.
"Hi Frank,
You did a great job on my video iPod, still going strong. Here is my daughter's 64GB iPod Touch. We don't know why or what but it won't turn on."
He included a check for $40 without realizing that I charge $60 for the Touch models.
I went through device and got it working again, but it needed to have the LCD replaced. We settled up on things using PayPal. Notice we have good working WiFi.
The total to get it back working was $86, but not bad for a $450 device.
Total cost for this was $86
I got an iPod in the mail which was the result of a phone call from Lyn Hunter of San Leandro California (94578). It was a 6th gen video iPod and it came with a note that read,
"My iPod was in my purse when a bottle of water opened and completely spilled out. When I found my device it had been submerged under water for *at least* 5 minutes but I fear longer.
Enclosed is a check for $40. reading over your website, you sound like you know what you're doing. so I've placed it in your humble hands and I hope you are able to get my baby working again. By the way, I rather enjoyed reading about things on your website. It is quite informative about your interests and abilities and experience. My favorite was the story about george. I happen to LOVE cats!"
I had her iPod here for a day. Took it all apart, cleaned all the contacts, checked each part out separately and then re-assembled it all. I am able to make this model work in 14 out of 15 instances. This one I was able to make work again and it didn't require replacing any parts to do so.
The total cost was $40 and all of her songs and files were still safely on it.
