Charles Allen called me from Houston, Texas about his 6th Generation video iPod.
Earlier in the day he dropped it into sea water. I don't remember the exact specifics, but it arrived a few days with a letter that read,
"iPod went for a swim in salt water Sunday night. It was powered on if that matters. Let me know if it's repairable."
Salt water cases are near impossible to make work afterward. His is the exception. Even thought there was rust on the steel hard drive case, I was able to get it all apart, back together and working again. It required a new LCD and a new battery.
The battery was $19 and the LCD was $41. Labor/return shipping was $40 so for $100 he got it back with all of songs again working perfectly.
Fixed - Total cost $100.

Terry Cheng called me from Palatine, Illinois about his iPod Touch
first generation. He was able to use it with no problem except one... his "Home" key wasn't working. I've seen this problem before. In the past the upper dome that makes bridges the two contacts "closing the switch" that is the "Home Key" had shifted. There is more one of those cases (Evan Testa) here:

Terry sent it in. When I got it apart, I didn't find exactly the same case. This time there was oxide corrosion that was acting as a dielectric non-conductor on both the upper dome and the two closure contacts.
I cleaned them and then glued the dome piece back in place, then reassembled the device altogether. Now it works perfectly.
Total cost for Terry was $60
Fixed - Total cost $60.

Margaret Ann Erwin had sent me an iPod before to get repaired.
There is more on that repair of her 4th Gen iPod on this page:

This time she called me from Laurel, Maryland about her daughter's Blackberry 8110 "Pearl" model that had been dropped in water and wasn't working. Since I was "the iPod dropped in water guy" do I also do cell phones? I sent her links on my cell phone work and told this wouldn't even be the first Pearl I had worked on. I had also restored to other Red 8110 Blackberrys.
She sent the phone and its charger to me along with the $60 I charge. Several days later I had it working again.
Total cost $60
Fixed - Total cost $60.
